Welcome!

Opening Message from President, Barbara Hopkins-Cox

October 15 , 2007

Hello Fellow Kappans,

As the new President of the Walden PDK Cyberspace Chapter, I would like to welcome you all to the Fall 2007 meeting! There have been quite a few changes since our Spring meeting. First, and foremost, we have a new Board of Officers. Our new board is dedicated to continuing the efforts and traditions of our predecessors, while bringing forth new and innovative ways to strengthen our presence and motivate membership involvement. One of the ways in which Walden PDK will be more prominent is our increased presence at the Walden residences. We are currently working with the Residences Committee and the School of Education to ensure Walden PDK will have a permanent booth, informational sessions, scheduled time and location of induction ceremonies, and recognition during the graduation ceremonies.

The Literacy Project is still going strong and there is still time to donate. This year’s recipient is the Manuel L. Real School in Parris, CA. You can aid in this endeavour by going to Amazon.com and buying a book to be delivered to the school. The Wish List for Manuel L. Real School is ready at Amazon.com for members to make their selections in support of our literacy program. There are 125 items listed to choose from. Here are the instructions:

  • Go to Amazon.com  and select icon on top right entitled "Your Lists"
  • Select icon "Wish List"
  • On the next screen on bottom right click on "Find Someone's Wish List"
  • Type in "Manuel L. Real School" and hit Go

Easier yet (we really want to FLOOD this school with books) take this
direct link to the Wish List, and do it right now! When you put a book from this Wish List in your shopping cart, and go through the checkout process, you'll find that you can select the school's mailing address as the shipping address, which makes it really easy. You just need to enter your payment details. You can include a short message with your gift free of charge.

The Journal of Educational Practice & Social Change (JEPSC), our new peer-reviewed international journal, is going very well. Students of Walden University who are members of our chapter are already conducting research on a regular basis, making our chapter the largest one actively working in scholarly research.  As a member of our chapter we welcome you to submit your excellent scholarly work to our editors for publishing through our new online journal, the Journal of Educational Practice & Social Change. The Editor-In-Chief is Jarek Janio. Email Jarek.

We are proud to announce we have started the Simon-Poppenhagen Scholarship to recognize exemplary accomplishments of our members. The first two recipients, as you already know, are Candace Stine and Sandra Wenzel.

Finally, I would like to welcome our 25 newest members from the Minneapolis Summer Residency 2007.

Here’s to having a wonderful and fulfilling academic year!

Barbara
