General Chapter Meeting

Monday, November 26 through Sunday, December 2, 2001.

  Hello and Welcome to Everyone!

This is a wonderful opportunity to meet and greet each other and we have Andre and Gay to thank for all the fine work.

One of the great things about being 60 years old, as I am, is to be able to see the incredible resiliance of the American people in times of crisis and horror over an extended period of time.  It is heartwarming.  One more time we have witnessed those who would attack and destroy us being thwarted by the indomitable spirit of our nation and the contagious effect that it has had on the world in general. We remain upstanding and committed to the best that the world has to offer.

We as educators have, in my estimation, an honor-bound trust to teach the truth in our classrooms, whether we agree with politics or not.  It is only in knowing the truth that open and accurate decisions can be made. Let us respond to this recent period of darkness with a renewal to the advocacy of open dialogue, fair representation of all points of view and a new and deeper commitment to our profession which finds its roots in the antiquity of mankind.
In other posts we have several agendas to explore and I encourage everyne to do so.  It is only with your individual and collective input that we can make the best decisions.  After all, we members are the organization, not just the officers.

We have a great and noble calling and I am proud to be a member of this wonderful organization and your servant as chapter president for this academic year.

Please communicate any questions, concerns or suggestions to me directly (or any of the officers or advisors) and I promise we will get back to you as soon as humanly possible.

One last thing:  We have several officer posts unfilled and would like to fill them as soon as possible.  Please contact me if you are up to serving your fellow members.

My best to all
John
